As we begin to form a better understanding of what we can expect from the recently announced Cisco Certification changes, we're diving into the details for each, specific program. Major updates to all of Cisco's Certification tracks are coming in 2020, from CCNA to CCIE. What does this mean for current candidates studying for CCIE Data Center?

Cisco's new exams for their revamped CCIE Data Center Certification program will go live on February 24, 2020. First and foremost, there will no longer be a distinction between the CCIE Data Center Qualification Exam (CCIE Data Center Written Exam) and the CCNP Data Center 'Core' exams. Specifically, the Implementing Cisco Data Center Core Technologies (DCCOR 300-601) exam now qualifies you to do one of two things:
  • Take a CCNP Concentration exam to become CCNP Data Center
  • Take the CCIE Data Center Lab Exam and become CCIE Data Center

If you’ve already passed the CCIE Data Center Written Exam (400-151 CCIE Data Center), this qualifies you to take either the current Data Center Lab Exam v2.1 (before Feb 24, 2020), or the new CCIE Data Center Lab Exam v3.0 (after Feb 23, 2020), assuming your written exam is still valid.

In terms of topic changes, a first glance at the new blueprint shows that the following topics have been removed:

  • Overlay Transport Virtualization (OTV)
  • Cisco Application Virtual Switch (AVE)
  • Hyper-V Switch

New topics in the CCIE Data Center v3.0 Blueprint include:

  • Hyperflex
  • Data Center Network Manager (DCNM)

As more information becomes available, we'll be the first to share our thoughts, observations, and advice. We'll soon be releasing an in-depth plan for candidates working with any of Cisco's Certification programs to reach the finish line while staying up-to-date with new requirements and technologies.

If you have any questions or are looking for more information regarding the upcoming changes, leave us a comment and check back here often. We'll be covering each department and then some.
